If you’re looking for a music recording experience in the ultimate Kiwi holiday destination, look no further than Dave Rhodes’ high end boutique recording studio in Whitianga!
After 25 years living and working in Auckland, Dave made a conscious return to his roots – to the place where he was first inspired to pursue a career in music. In 2019, Dave moved back to his hometown of Whitianga on the Coromandel Peninsula with his partner. Here he designed and built his own boutique professional recording studio, taking on the majority of the building work himself with support from his Dad and partner. The studio launched in December 2020, and Dave officially became a freelance music producer!
Dave has designed a comfortable creative space, with a relaxed Coromandel vibe. The live room and control room feature his favourite pieces of gear to professionally record music to the highest standard. Local cabinet maker and artist Pete Aldrich created the custom designed desk to fit two carefully curated racks of outboard gear, including a UAD Apollo which is the heart of the set up, and an ultra wide monitor.
The control room is a cosy spot for musicians to relax in during sessions, with the live room equipped for live drum recording, and perfectly suited for overdubs and vocal recording. Additionally you can make the most of the beautiful surroundings and head to the Buffalo Beach (a 3 min drive/10 min walk away!) for breaks.
Booking sessions at Dave’s studio has multiple perks; working with an award winning sound engineer, producing high quality professional tracks, and unleashing your creativity in a stunning location.
Buffalo Beach is only a 3 minute drive or 10 minute walk from the studio, and the rest of Mercury Bay awaits. Dave is well connected in the local community and can recommend places to stay, eat, relax and soak up the Whitianga nightlife. Book a bach for the band and make a weekend of it!
